Elif Şhafak is a prominent Turkish author, storyteller and academic known for her captivating narratives that explore themes of identity, culture, politics, and gender. She gained recognition with her novel The Bastard of Istanbul (2006), a multigenerational tale that delves into the complexities of Turkish and Armenian identities, and The Forty Rules of Love (2009) that intertwines the stories of Rumi and his spiritual mentor, Shams Tabrizi, with that of a modern-day woman’s quest for love and self-discovery.
