Peter Stamm

The path to becoming a professional writer of one of the best known contemporary Swiss authors was not a straightforward one. He graduated from a business school and worked as an accountant, later studying English, psychology and computer science. He also worked as an intern at various psychiatric clinics. After stints in Paris, New York and Scandinavia, he settled back in Switzerland, with his first book published in 1995. His successful output of novels, short stories, children’s books, radio and stage plays has earned him several prestigious awards, including the 2018 Swiss Book Prize, two film adaptations, a documentary about him and a street bearing his name. His works have been translated into 40 languages, and his 5th book was published in Czech translation in 2023.
