Raja Shehadeh is a distinguished Palestinian writer, lawyer, and human rights advocate. Trained as a barrister in London, he later returned home and co-founded the pioneering human rights organization Al-Haq. Alongside his legal career, he developed an international reputation as an author of reflective, quietly powerful prose blending memoir, travel writing, and political observation. His books are noted for their clarity, moral precision, and deep attachment to place. Among his best-known works are Palestinian Walks, which won the Orwell Prize, and We Could Have Been Friends, My Father and I. Widely translated and read internationally.
