Jana Karšaiová was born in Bratislava but in 2002 she started learning Italian on her own. She lived in Prague, Ostia and Verona where she worked as an actress. After a long break, she returned to theatre work, conducted workshops and attended creative writing courses. She published articles in magazines and her debut novel Divorzio di velluto was published in 2022 by the Feltrinelli publishing house. The book was nominated for the Premio Strega Award.
