Elżbieta Cherezińska

Currently one of the most popular and awarded Polish authors of historical novels, which focus on the history of medieval Poland and Central Europe or Scandinavia. Her Grą w kości (Czech edition: Hra o kosti, Argo, 2017) is devoted to the fate of Adalbert of Prague, his martyrdom on a mission in the then pagan Prussia and subsequent power games over his remains in which the Czech lands also played a part. Last year, the translation of her book Harda (Czech edition: Hrdá, Kontrast, 2022) was published, the story of Svatoslava, daughter of the Bohemian princess Doubravka and sister of king Bolesław I the Brave, who became Swedish and Danish queen and made an impact on world history. Cherezińska drew on the few preserved documents on Svatoslava. Her books were translated to Czech by Anna Šašková Plasová.
