Book World Ltd. confirms that the 2009 (15th) BOOK WORLD PRAGUE international book fair will be held as previously announced: from 14 May to 17 May 2009 at the Prague Exhibition Grounds in Holešovice.

MAIN ACCOMPANYING PROGRAMME The venue of the book fair has hosted 143 programmes attended by 230 writers and important figures from 25 countries of the world. LITERATURE FROM THE VISEGRÁD COUNTRIES Literary exhibition of the Visegrád countries mainly focused on books recently published by publishers of fine literature in Slovakia, Hungary and Poland. The Czech Republic has introduced translations of Czech literature into other languages from a state subsidy programme. The joint exhibition was prepared in co-operation with the Adam Mickiewicz Institute's literary group in Cracow and Polish Institute in Prague, Index - Association of Independent Publishers and Slovak Cultural Institute in Prague, Translation Fund of the Hungarian Book Foundation in Budapest and Hungarian Culture Centre in Prague. The International Visegrád Fund (IVF), with its seat in Bratislava, has provided the organisers with support in the form of co-operation on the V4 countries' literary presentation and has also been acquainting book fair visitors with its activities. SYMPOSIA AND SEMINARS APOLLINAIRE – AN OPEN BOOK (9 – 11 May, Klementinum and Charles University -Faculty of Philosophy) International symposium marking the 100th anniversary of the great poet's visit to Prague in 1902. Organised by CU-Faculty of Philosophy in co-operation with the French Institute in Prague and Prague City Hall. COPYRIGHT IN THE CONTEXT OF THE CZECH-FRENCH LITERARY RELATIONS (9 May at 1.00 p.m. – Lecture Theatre - Balcony) Organised by the French Institute in Prague EUROPEAN UNION AND THE PUBLISHING INDUSTRY (10 May at 12.00 noon – Business Centre – Central Hall) Seminar for publishers organised in co-operation with Literature Across Frontiers.
AWARDS AND ANTI-AWARDS PREMIA BOHEMICA Traditional Writers' Guild's award for foreign Bohemicists' contribution to the promotion of Czech literature was presented at the book fair to the Finnish Bohemicist Eero Balk. RACK AND SMALL RACK Another traditional award for the worst translation of the year in the fields of fiction and non-fiction. The total of 72 dictionaries has competed, published between BookWorld 2001 and BookWorld 2002. The expert jury has singled out 5 titles. The awards ceremony with the relevant publishers and/or authors in attendance took place on Saturday, 11 May, at 1.00 p.m. on the balcony of the Industrial Palace's central hall.
