Ilustrace Galina Miklínová, vydalo nakladatelství Paseka v roce 2003 za orifinální verše vysoké umělecké úrovně, které oslovují nejen malé, ale i větší čtenáře.

Zlatou stuhu získává
Svatopluk Hrnčíř: Osada na konci světa
Ilustrace Lenka Vybíralová, vydalo nakladatelství BBart v roce 2003 za zdařilou dobrodružnou knížku o kamarádství a skautingu, která navazuje na foglarovskou tradici a dále ji rozvíjí.

3. V kategorii Literatura faktu a populárně naučná literatura pro děti
Nominace:
Lucie Seifertová : Dějiny udatného českého národa a pár bezvýznamných světových událostí
S ilustracemi autorky vydali: Euromedia Group, a.s., Knižní klub Praha a Petr Prchal v roce 2003

Zlatou stuhu získává
Lucie Seifertová za celkově přístupnou koncepci publikace, vyčerpávající faktografické, ale i humorné zpracování látky formou panoramatického leporela.

5. Zvláštní ocenění za ediční počin
Současní čeští spisovatelé knih pro děti a mládež
Sestavily I. Hutařová a M. Hanzová, vydal Ústav pro informace ve vzdělávání v roce 2003 Zlatou stuhu získává Ústav pro informace ve vzdělávání za ediční počin – vydání kvalitní informativní publikace určené širokému okruhu uživatelů.

Golden Ribbon for Children’s Books
Golden Ribbon is the name of a prestigious award for authors and illustrators of children’s books. This year, the BookWorld book fair had the honour of hosting the competition’s awards ceremony for the first time. The competition, which has now entered its twelfth year, aims at drawing attention to high-quality children’s literature titles, published in the previous calendar year.. Children’s books play a very important role in the cultural development of the entire nation, and as such deserve great attention. As the jury members Vladimír Hulpach, president of the Czech section of the IBBY Milada Matějovicová, and painter Jindřich Kovařík have said during the ceremony, the Czech Republic can boast many fine authors. After all, the award-winning books speak for themselves.
In the Children’s Fiction category the Golden Ribbon was awarded to Pavel Šrut for his book Veliký tůdle, which was illustrated by Galina Miklíková and published by Paseka. The jury acknowledged the author’s original and artistic verses, which speak to young and old readers alike, a proof of which was immediately presented. National Theatre’s Taťána Medvecká has read and excerpt from the book with such enthusiasm, that she won the undivided attention of all the programme’s visitors.. The winner in the Fiction for Young People category is Svatopluk Hrnčíř with his book about camaraderie and scouting, Osada na konci světa (Camp at the End of the World), illustrated by Lenka Vybíralová and published by BBart.
In the categories Non-Fiction Literature and Popular Science Literature for Children the Golden Ribbon was awarded to Lucie Seifertová for her book Dějiny udatného českého národa a pár bezvýznamných světových událostí (The History of the Brave Czech Nation As Well As Some Trivial World Events). The jury valued not only the untraditional folding-book approach, but especially the book’s wit and comprehensive factography. The next category was Distinguished Translation of Important Work of Literature for Children and Young People, awarded to Richard Podaný for his flawless translation of Eva Ibbotson’s The Secret of Platform 13.. Special prize for publishing achievement went to the Institute for Information in Education, for its publicaton Contemporary Czech Writers of Books for Children and Young People. The prize for Non-Fiction Literature for Young People was not presented this year. The Book for Youngest Readers category was dominated by Gabriel Filcík with his Knížka pro děti od dvou do pěti (Book for Children from Two to Five), the jury highlighting its rich and poetic narrative illustrations.. Lucie Dvořáková’s original illustrations and use of captivating colours in the book Čertice Trucajda (Trucayda the Imp) won her the Golden Ribbon in the Children’s Fiction category.
No awards, on the other hand, were presented in the Non-Fiction and Popular Science Category. Golden Ribbon in the category Beautiful Book for Children and Young People in general was awarded to Renáta Fučíková and Clara Istlerová for their approach to the book Evropské pohádky (European Fairy Tales).. Award for a special publishers’ achievement was presented to Paseka publishers for the book Veliký tůdle. The climax of the ceremony was the presentation of the Golden Ribbon to Ms. Eva Šedivá for her lifetime consistent achievement in illustration. This year’s Golden Ribbons have found their owners, and illustrators and writers can now get back to work, with the hope that their name will feature on the list of next year’s winners.

Premia Bohemica Prize

Reiner Kunze , renowned German Bohemicist, was awarded the 11th annual Premia Bohemica prize, presented by Writers’ Guild and the Czech Literary Fund Endowment for promoting Czech literature and culture abroad. Besides being an excellent translator of Czech poetry and drama, Reiner Kunze has also got strong personal ties to Czech culture. Kunze is also an acclaimed writer and winner of various literary prizes.

Three Countries Under One Roof
Ireland, Scotland, and Wales, three beautiful countries, each proud of its distinctive voice, but at the same time prepared to co-operate with its neighbours. A good illustration of this co-operation is the three countries’ joint exhibition at this year’s BookWorld. Three important literary representatives from all the three countries met at a ceremonial opening of their stand, located at the very heart of the entire book fair, in the Central Hall. In their brief addresses they all welcomed the opportunity of presenting literature not only at the book fair, but on the Czech market as a whole. „The co-operation between the Irish and the Czech reaches deep into history, and it is great that today, just as in the sixtenth century, the two countries have some shared understanding, and not only in literature. We are happy that the Czech readers, as well as all the other inhabitants of your beautiful country, are now our fellow citizens,“ Rousin Ni Mhiamáin of the Irish Arts Council said, reminding everyone of our fresh EU membership. In her speech she changed swiftly between English and Irish, serving, together with the Irish authors who write in both languages, as a proof that Ireland, although a member of the international community, honours its tradition and history. Similar ideas were proposed by the representative of the Scottish Arts Council Gavin Wallace, who also spoke of his satisfaction with the impact Scottish litertaure has recently begun to make abroad. „All of us, Wales, Ireland, Scotland and the Czech Republic, are small countries, and yet ambitious and proud of their culture,“ the Welsh representative Chris Ricketts concluded, and we certainly agree with him.

Vyšehrad Publishers‘ Awards
Once again this year, the list of traditional BookWorld events includes the annual Vyšehrad pubilshers’ awards ceremony. „This is the tenth year we are presenting our prizes at this book fair and, through the years, we have awrarded close to forty authors, translators and illustrators,“ said the publishing house’s director Pravomil Novák during the ceremony. He also added, that every year he faces a great dilemma who should receive the awards, because the number of high-quality collaborators of the publishing house is large. This year the prize was presented to Michaela Ponocná for her translation of Philip Gulley’s Front Porch Tales and Home to Harmony. The award for original literary work was presented to Jarmila Bednaříková for her Migration of Peoples. The third awarded author was painter Jiří Šalamoun for his illustrations in D.H. Lawrence’s Vítězný houpací kůň.
